Meet the Crew

The heart and soul of the Black Watch experience

Captain Dave

Captain Dave

Captain Dave is a licensed Merchant Marine who has spent most of his life in, on, and around waters all over the world. He fell in love with sailing as a teenager on Lake Grapevine, and that first spark sent him off on a lifetime of adventure — from the South Pacific to the Caribbean and countless waters in between.

Along the way, his interests expanded to power boats and touring kayaks, and he served as a PADI Course Director for SCUBA for over 30 years, diving and operating charters in Palau, Guam, Mexico, California, Florida, the Gulf of Mexico, and throughout the Caribbean.

After all those years and all those miles, Captain Dave came back home to the lake where it all began — bringing with him a rare ability to curate a beautiful adventure on the water. Every charter aboard the Fourth Watch is a reflection of that lifetime of experience and a genuine love for sharing it.

The Crew

Perry — First Mate

Perry

Known around Lake Grapevine as the grandfather of the lake, Perry is an accomplished rigger who has helped keep nearly every sailboat on these waters going. For generations, he's been the go-to when owners have questions — there isn't a sailing rig on this lake he hasn't had a hand in. He has been sailing his own boats and others for longer than most of us have been alive, and has forgotten more about sailing than most will ever know.

Lloyd with the crew aboard the Fourth Watch

Lloyd

Lloyd has spent a lifetime mastering the live-aboard dream in both salt and fresh waters. If you've ever wondered what it's really like to call a sailboat home, he and Captain Dave have lived the story — and know all the little ways to optimize a life on the water. Decades of hard-won wisdom make every conversation aboard the Fourth Watch that much richer.
